Electronic Poker is a popular game that is able to be wagered on in casinos around the globe, or alternatively at your house on your PC, through a web connection. The rules are very straightforward and consist of the player trying to achieve the greatest combination of cards as you can in order to come away with money. In this respect it is very similar as a classic game of poker, apart from the interaction with other players. Of course, methods used in a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant here.

The game of Video Poker begins when the bettor inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the machine and pushes the deal button. A 5 card hand will be "distributed" on the video screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and players should now pick which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the player would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.

After the gambler has chosen which cards she wishes to retain, they should press ‘deal’, at which point any fresh cards are needed they will be given out. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the pay out schedule.

Generally, the minimum winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payout schedule can change from game to game, so that experienced bettors are able to choose the most money-making game each instance.

Once the first round has completed, the player can either decide to continue on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any credits that they may have won. Additionally, a few versions of the game give the gambler a chance to double their winnings, in which case another round is played. There are also differences between individual machines, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
