Video Poker is a beloved game that is able to be gambled on in casinos across the world, or alternatively at home on your PC, through an Internet account. The rules are absolutely simple and involve the player attempting to get the greatest mixture of cards possible in order to win cash. In this respect it is very similar as a regular game of poker, without the involvement with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a physical game of poker, like tricking, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the player inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the machine and presses the draw button. A 5 card hand will then be "given out" on the screen.

The Electronic Poker machine also has hold buttons, and gamblers will need to now choose which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.

After the gambler has chosen which cards he or she wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘deal’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be dealt. The game is now finished, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the pay out schedule.

Normally, the minimum winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the award money increasing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the payout schedule can change from machine to machine, so that discerning enthusiasts are able to choose the most money-making ones every time.

As soon as the first round has completed, the player can either decide to remain on in an attempt to increase their earnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that they may have won. Additionally, a few styles of the game allow the player an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which case a further hand is played. There are also variations among specific games, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
